flying help e.V. rescues children from their suffering

Humanitarian tragedy on Kos

It's a bright day outside. Within these collapsing ruins - open to one side - several hundred peple set up a provisory shelter. Pitch-black, completely dark.

I feel anxiety and trepidation rising as I a walking down a grim corridor. It is Sunday, Dec 29th, I am taking photos. Outside it is freezing, I can't describe the smell inside.

A young woman allows me to take pictures inside her shack. Three women and two children are living there. No heating, no water, no electricity, no toilet, no shower.

Directly below the overcrowded hotspot, right in front of the building, volunteers are distributing blankets, jackets, sleeping bags and other goods to all those people who fled their country. Many are leaving the hotspot and buildig their own little shacks because even that is better than the situation within the state-run camp.

Those people who are living in a container, consider themselves lucky. The containers and cabins offer room for about 800 people. But way over a thousand are there and trying to keep warm, crouched down between the cabins, covered by plastic sheets, paper and dead palm leaves.

After heavy rain and storm, all provisory shacks and shelters are at least wet to the core if not completely destroyed.

flying help e.V. has started their work in 2015 by finding accomodation for families with children in small lodgings or apartments. Current conditions still require immediate action. Thanks to a generous donation by Space-Eye, we can restart the accomodation program immediately. The first rooms are distributed right now by our volunteers.

Please help by donating! Our goal is to get every child off the street and into human-worthy living conditions.

There are ten volunteers on Kos right now. On Sunday, two further will be arriving on the island.

We still need more helping hands. Please apply on our website www.flying-help.de to be a volunteer on Kos.

We also need two vehicles on Kos. A Van (Sprinter or equal) and a PKW Kombi to transport goods and peope would be ideal.

flying help e.V. is accreditet as a non-profit, charitable organsiation, we can therefore offer donations receipts.
